NY Concept Sign is an advertising design company specializing in custom signs, displays, cards, and other prints for businesses and organizations. Their showroom is open for free consultations, and they offer flexibility and a range of signage solutions to help clients communicate their brand and message. We had the pleasure of interviewing Lola, a co-owner of the store.
Q: Could you share the story of NY Concept Sign and how your business began in Chinatown?
Lola: My husband has 30 years of experience in this industry, and we previously ran this business at another address. We moved to our current location three years ago, and we have been operating here since.
Q: What is the most popular product among your customers?
Lola: We mainly do large-scale inkjet printing, such as posters. We also have another business that specializes in illuminated signs, with a focus on Chinese calligraphy.
Q: How do you decide on the colors, words, and other elements of a design?
Lola: The design always depends on the needs of the customer. Different industries have different requirements, and some customers come in with their own design in mind. Either way, we make sure to be flexible to address their needs and create a product that they are satisfied with.
Q: How has Chinatown changed since the start of your business?
Lola: Before the pandemic, the state of the business was hopeful. During the pandemic, our business was closed and not operating, so we were in a state of suspension. After, we saw that many businesses closed, and so there were fewer customers. A lot of businesses had to start over from scratch, and we were involved first-hand in this process as we helped them create the signs they needed.
Q: How has the Chinatown community responded to NY Concept Sign, and what do you think your business does for the community?
Lola: We support Chinatown’s large-scale cultural activities with our products, such as the float parades and many other New Year or holiday celebrations. For example, we’re involved in the one-night event that’s happening today. We actively participate in and cooperate with many of these community organizations.
Q: What hopes or goals do you have for the future of NY Concept Sign?
Lola: Our company is currently on the smaller side, and our profits can definitely see more growth. However, our business has already been doing well, so I hope that we can maintain it and gain more customers in the future. Since the pandemic, my physical condition has been gradually recovering, so we are slowly accumulating business.
